Carrie Harvala ~ Running for a Reason
The idea behind my group is to raise money for members of my community that may need help due to illness, fire or unexpected event. We collect donations throughout the year and then run a race in honor of those we were able to help. I encourage anyone that would like to run a race with me to do so. 100% of all donations go to the recipient of the race.

The Noquemanon race January 28th, 2012, I will be snowshoeing for Becky Mell-Parkkonen and Roman Body. Both Becky and Roman have been battling cancer for awhile. Becky is married and has 3 children and Roman is a 6 year old boy. I will be adding notes to my page so that you become more familiar with their stories. My fundraiser for this race will be ...a "Open House" type party November 20th from 1-4 at the Ely Township Hall. A few of the consultants I have so far are Tastefully Simple, Arbonne and Alysa Diebolt who does fused glass jewelry, Avon and a bake sale. My hope is that maybe we can purchase a few Christmas gifts and make a donation at the same time. The consultants have been generous to donate 20% of all sales as a donation.
Griffin Helsten Fundraiser
Griffin is a 9 year old boy who has just recently been diagnosed with a severe heart condition. I have been collecting donations and will be running in the Marquette Turkey Trot on Thanksgiving Day with about 40 other people representing Running for a Reason on behalf of Griffin. Griffin just recently had a pacemaker put in, but will probably have to have a heart transpant in the future. Hopefully we can help relieve a little bit of the financial stress of traveling back and forth to the hospital in addition to his medical expenses.
Taylor Carlson Race
The first race that I collected money for and ran on behalf of someone was this past October. Myself and over 20 other people ran in honor of Taylor Carlson in this race. Taylor is a 10 year old girl who has been battling cancer since December of 2010. Together we were able to raise $1,000 for Taylor and her family. Donations were collected as well as $5 from the sale of each Running for a Reason shirt sold.
What is Carrie Harvala~Running for a Reason
For those of you that don't know me, my name is Carrie Harvala. I am 31 years old and live in Upper Michigan with my husband Jesse of 10 years and our 3 children, Morgan, Spencer and Maggie. I have created a page to help raise some money for family and friends in our community. I have been trying to think of something over the past few years that I can do to help our community. I just recently ran my first 1/2 Marathon and after completing it got the idea to "Run for a Reason". Starting in 2012 my goal is to run 2, 1/2 Marathons and 1, Full Marathon to raise money for groups, individuals, or families that could use a little help. The feedback has been so overwhelming that I ended up raising money and running in my first Running for a Reason race in October. In 2003 my family had a house fire and the support from our friends and family was overwhelming. In 2007 when I was pregnant with my youngest daughter I became very sick and was airlifted to Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN. Again the support was more than I could have ever asked for. Because of that I have always wanted to be able to give back. As it gets closing to each race I will be announcing where the money will be going. I will be open to any suggestions/ideas as to who you feel may benefit from "our" project. I will also be announcing which race I will be running in, if anyone would like to join me. All of the money raised will go directly to the donation of choice. I will pay for all of my own out of pocket expenses including registration, transportation, etc. If the need is there, I will do some shorter road races as well to raise money. Thanks for your support. "Helping our friends and family 1 mile at a time" |
